      Terms and Conditions for Everyone

The terms and conditions below explain important information about Heartbeet Farm’s CSA program and online vegetable sales.

Please read through it very carefully before purchasing a CSA share or vegetables from the online farm store. Any purchase conducted through our website represents an explicit acceptance of the terms and conditions.

      Our Farm’s Philosophy

Heartbeet Farm is committed to producing the highest quality food following organic and regenerative growing practices.

As your farmers, we pledge to provide our members and customers with a unique food experience by creating a community of eaters who value good food and healthy soils. Let’s get into the weeds, shall we?

      Growing Practices

The Heartbeet team makes a great effort to grow all of the vegetables on our farm in North Augusta. Should we supplement with crops grown by other awesome farmers, those crops will be source identified online and in our newsletter.

Our focus is on growing beautiful produce for our CSA members and customers by strictly following the Canadian Organic Standards and sticking to Regenerative Principles as much as possible.

      Specifically, our production practices include:

      • Rotating crop families from field to field, year after year
      • Sowing cover crops to build soil, break pest cycles, and suppress weeds
      • Using specialized insect netting to reduce pest pressure
      • Using row covers as protection from early/late frosts
      • Growing crops in soil and under tunnels to extend the season and reduce disease pressure
      • Fertilizing with organic certified amendments only
      • Spraying only using organic-approved formulas that do not harm beneficial insects or pollinators

      Code of Conduct

The Heartbeet Farm Code of Conduct is one of the ways we put our values into practice. We expect all of our members, farmers, staff, and volunteers to know and follow the Code. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment or termination of a membership to the CSA program.

      Integrity

Our reputation as a farm that our members can trust is our most valuable asset, and it is up to all farmers to make sure that we continually earn that trust.

      Suspend Judgment

Let’s celebrate our differences. Live and let live.

      Respect Others

Be courteous and polite towards one another. We never know how others are feeling or what they are going through on a given day. Maintain a space where folks can pick up their vegetables in peace, chat with their neighbours, or relax at all pickup locations.

Terms and Conditions for the CSA Program

      Heartbeet Responsibilities to the CSA

CSA Start Date & Harvest Season

Our harvest season runs from June to December. You will be contacted in early June with information about the start date of the program as it will depend on the weather.

Heartbeet Farm will act in good faith and work our tails off to provide fresh organic produce for CSA shares but we cannot guarantee specific quantities of vegetables in each box nor the contents on a given week.

      Risk Mitigation & Rewards

Mother Nature can sometimes throw curve balls such as poor weather, drought, disease, early frost, crop failure and other natural challenges. We plan and produce a wide variety of crops to ensure a steady supply and limit the impact of natural challenges. However, we can never eliminate the risk of growing outside and in the soil.

It’s not all bad news! Oftentimes, there are crops that yield a bumper crop and, as a member of the CSA program, you will get a share of those high yields.

      Communication

We are committed to sharing news and upcoming box contents through our weekly email newsletter. Add farmers@heartbeetfarm.ca to your address book to ensure you receive all our emails.

      Privacy

Heartbeet Farm will never sell or share your information. Our farm and the software companies we use to manage online orders employ the best practices in cyber security to keep your information safe. We will only send you information that relates to farming, the farm, and our products and services.

      CSA Member Responsibilities

      Pick up your box

As a CSA member, you must pick up your vegetables on your chosen pickup day, at your chosen pickup location, and during the pickup window. Freshness is fleeting so we only harvest prior to your designated pickup day.

Can’t pick up your box? You have three options:

      • Use one of your “vacations” and skip the week. Log in to your heartbeetfarm.ca account and submit a request to skip a week at least 72 hours before the start of the pickup window.  Read more about this option in the “Vacations” section below.
      • Have a friend or neighbour pick up your box.
      • Donate your box to our local food bank partner.

Members cannot change their pickup location or pickup day during the CSA program.

      Stay Informed

Educate yourself about the workings of our CSA program by thoroughly reading through the website and weekly newsletters sent by email. The newsletter contains special announcements as well as important information about what's in the box, news from the farm, and details about the harvest.

      Be an Active Participant

We encourage you to become an active participant in the CSA Program.

      • Read our weekly newsletter during the box program
      • Visit the farm during CSA pickup times or during pre-planned farm tours and events
      • Share your comments, suggestions and concerns by email or in person.

This is one of the great perks of CSA. You can talk with and shake the hand of the farmers who grow your food!

      Pay on time

We accept the following payment methods:

      • Cash: In person at an event or dropped off at the farm if arrangements have been made prior.
      • Cheque: Made out to “Heartbeet Farm” with your order number on the “memo” line and mailed to 11513 Harvey Road, North Augusta, ON K0G 1R0
      • Interac e-Transfer: Sent to farmers@heartbeetfarm.ca - no question/answer necessary - include your order number in the message section.
      • PayPal: available on heartbeetfarm.ca
      • Credit Card: available on heartbeetfarm.ca

All payments must be received before May 1st, 2022. Late payments may result in a member losing their privilege to participate in the CSA program. Heartbeet will send frequent reminders by email and by phone.

      Missed Pickup Policy

All missed pickups and unclaimed CSA boxes will be donated to our foodbank partner. No refunds are given for unclaimed boxes.

      Vacation Policy

Vacations are managed online through your heartbeetfarm.ca account. Log in to your account and select the week you wish to skip at least 72 hours before the start of the pickup window.

Skipping a week will a $35 store credit to your account which may be used to purchase additional vegetables online at any time during the season. Store credits will never expire and can be used to purchase a CSA the following year.

The number of vacation credits per CSA share size are as follows:

      • Weekly summer members can skip up to two weeks in a given year.
      • Biweekly summer members can skip one week in a given year.
      • Vacation credits are not available for the fall CSA

      Cancellation Policy

Program cancellations before June 15, 2022, will be eligible for a full refund minus a $20 administrative fee and all credit card processing fees.

Program cancellations after June 15, 2022 cannot be refunded.  Heartbeet Farm will have spent a majority of the funds to buy supplies and pay wages for crops started as early as February.  Members are encouraged to find a replacement member and collect payment from that person.  We cannot guarantee assistance in finding a replacement as we are very busy with the production and harvest at this time of year.

Heartbeet Farm reserves the right to cancel a membership with a full refund minus a $20 administrative fee and all credit card processing fees if the member goes against the farm’s code of conduct as written in this agreement.
